We have created a short guide so pet parents can feel more prepared for a home end-of-life procedure. It explains each step in plain language and is designed to make the process a little less daunting.
A small injection is given under the skin to help your pet become sleepy and relaxed. Most pets fall asleep within 5–10 minutes, while some larger dogs may take 15–20 minutes. You may continue to pat, cuddle or offer favourite snacks as they drift into a deep, peaceful sleep.
Once your pet is fully asleep and relaxed, an IV cannula is placed. This is done only when your pet is calm and unaware of touch or clippers, helping them remain comfortable throughout.
After the cannula is in place, Dr Su-en gives the final injection and explains what to expect. You can continue to hold, cuddle or pat your pet. The process is gentle and is not rushed.
If cremation is chosen, Dr Su-en can take your pet with her and arrange aftercare. With individual cremation, ashes are returned to your home free of delivery charge, typically within 2–4 weeks.
A gentle reminder: there is no “right” way to say goodbye. You are encouraged to do whatever feels most meaningful for you and your pet.
